To me, this slightly crazy sketch of myself and my workmates at Guru is a jumble of genius. It was created by the mysterious and sadly now elusive Mr Derek Hargreaves.

I’ve been bumbling along for well over seventy years now, trying to survive, evolve and make sense of this ever-changing world. Along the way, as many people do, I’ve accumulated a whole host of mementoes in the form of written notes and sketches (made or acquired over the years), plus letters, cards and documents and also some special song lyrics and tunes which have real meaning for me.  Probably the most precious to me of all these things are my photographs, as many are of loved ones and/or capture unique moments in time.

I’d like to think that the two main functions of this blog are to use things learned in the past to make the future better and to record my own experiences so far of the, alternately wondrous and harrowing, ‘art of living history’.
I suppose I am doing this mainly for myself but by making it public I hope it may also be of interest or even a little bit of help to others.
I still have lots to do and much to learn and I’m working on the assumption that for those with generous hearts and open minds, the wondrous will triumph in the end.
I believe we humans must strive to apply fairness, compassion, staying power and common sense when dealing with things, both negative and positive, experienced in the past and whatever is yet to be encountered as time races on.
I personally get so much help towards achieving this from returning time and time again and adding yet more examples, to my own collection of scribbles, sketches, songs and snaps which I suppose equal just about the essence of my whole life so far.
Although extensive I feel that my particular collection is by no way complete, so I’m looking forward with equal measures of trepidation and excitement to what is yet to come…
If you are following this blog, I’m honoured.
